Welcome to Elephant Attic Design
Handmade metal jewellery, designed and created in the heart of the North Yorkshire Dales by Michelle Pilkington.
I'm a jewellery designer - maker living and working in the Yorkshire Dales. My work focusses mainly on designing jewellery made from recycled metal incorporating beautiful beads both modern and vintage - I use a variety of recycled materials - wire, paper, leather, beads and more. Designs incorporate a mix of recycled and vintage components with new materials that come together to create unique and individual handcrafted items - leather purses, beaded purses, handmade cards and more.
I've worked in a variety of creative fields, soft-furnishing, costume design, arts & crafts.
My explorations into wirework developed into the jewellery practise that I now use and teach. Discovering all the various options is exciting and the same processes still throw up new ideas and techniques.
I have always been compelled to recycle, I hate waste and am a strong advocate of the make do and mend ethos of the 40's and 50's.
Inspiration comes from tribal and ancient jewellery, and my designs draw on the often unusual and innovative ways cultures with limited resources produce jewellery.
My workshops focus on the use of recycled materials - wire, fabric, vintage beads, tin and copper. As a teacher with a multidisciplinary background in tradional crafts, wirework and jewellery my classes allow for experimentation, students can expect to transform a variety of materials into unique pieces of jewellery. My current programme of classes is offered in Skipton, at No 6 studios in Pateley Bridge and Artison in Masham. Please Contact Me for more information.
